At Harwell Neurobehavioral Pediatrics, we provide thoughtful care for children and families navigating neurodevelopmental and behavioral challenges. Our practice addresses your child's needs in a nurturing family-centered environment.

Meet the Owner and Provider

Cara Harwell, APRN, CPNP, PMHS

Cara Harwell is a Certified Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Mental Health Specialist with more than 20 years of experience in pediatric neurologic, neurobehavioral, and acute care medicine. She is the creator of the REACH (Respecting Each Awesome Child Here) Program at Nemours Children's Health, designed to support children with sensory or developmental needs during medical appointments. Cara has expertise in patient quality and safety, care standardization, medical leadership, and has maintained top-tier patient satisfaction ratings.

Our Services

Comprehensive Neurobehavioral Assessment and Diagnosis

VIRTUAL appointment with our provider, including a thorough review of birth, developmental, medical, academic, family history, and areas of concern. Comprehensive behavior rating scales for parent, teacher, and self to evaluate for a broad range of behavioral, emotional, social, and academic issues.

Follow up VIRTUAL appointment to review results of all evaluations and provide diagnosis, referral, and personalized recommendations.

Includes a detailed and thorough report that can be used as data toward services such as 504 plans, IEPs, Step Up for Students, or similar.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment (ADOS-2)

If there's a concern about autism, we offer the ADOS-2-the gold standard, research-backed assessment for autism spectrum disorder. This tool is completed alongside our initial neurobehavioral assessment to provide a thorough and accurate understanding of your child's unique strengths and needs. 

The ADOS-2 can also be administered as a stand-alone evaluation. We would provide the result to you or your child's provider who can use it to supplement any existing assessments. 

​This is an ON-SITE assessment in our private, sensory friendly space designed to help your child feel comfortable and at ease.

IQ Screening (including for gifted)
Academic Achievement Screening 
(Ages 6 and Up)

If there's a concern about learning difficulties, our Cognitive and Academic screening provides valuable insights into your child's cognitive strengths and academic skill levels. This tool is completed alongside our initial neurobehavioral assessment-seamlessly integrated with our full evaluation.

 

The screening can also be administered as a stand-alone evaluation. We would provide the result to you or your child's provider who can use it to supplement any existing assessments. 

 

This is an ON-SITE assessment in a private sensory friendly space designed to help your child feel comfortable and at ease.​​​

New Services

 Transition to Adulthood
Evaluation
(Ages 14-18)

Designed for students with unique abilities who are preparing for the move from adolescents to adult life. It combines a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation with standardized behavior rating scales, cognitive screening, and a work readiness inventory to identify interests, strengths, and potential career or training paths. 

Families receive a detailed report with personalized recommendations that can be used for Step Up or similar scholarship documentation, and next step decisions around education, employment, and independent living. 

Combination of virtual and on-site appointments. Cognitive screening proctored by a certified teacher.

Ongoing Health Promotion and Medication Management
(Ages 6 and Up)

VIRTUAL follow up care providing practical guidance on overall wellness and medication management. 

Medication management includes non-stimulant/non-controlled medications for ADHD, ODD, anxiety, depression, OCD, simple tic disorders, and sleep.​​​

Regular Rate $149/visit
